The Peterites in Melbourne have had a busy first half (financial year) starting off with the AGM in July, the Family Fun day in October and the Christmas Lunch in December. The second half in 2015 kicks off with the Joe-Pete weekend consisting of a Stag-Nite and 40-Over Cricket in Feb-March, the Golf tournament in April and finally the all-important Dinner dance in May.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held on Friday 17th July followed by drinks and dinner and was well attended with over 60 participating. A committee headed by Johann Gunasekara was elected and promised to continue the good work of the previous years and forge ahead a team that can take the Club to the next decade. The committee includes Past President Patrick Fernando, Vice President Chanaka Perera, Secretary Prasad Algama, Treasurer Nicholas Opatha, Social Secretary Russell Pereira, Sports Secretary Niroshan de Cruz, Editor Grehem Vandersay, Membership Secretary Ramesh Navaratne and assistants Srilal Ranasinghe, Rohith Kurukulasuriya, Dhanushka Perera and Trevor Serpanchy. Winston Foenander was elected Hony. Auditor whilst Ainsley Corteling joined the distinguished group of life members.

 

Kingswood Touch Rugby 7’s

For the first time ever the Club fielded a team at the Kingswood Rugby 7’s on September 26th. Coached by former Captain Dilan Abeygoonewardne, the team made a great impact by entering the semi’s and was commended by the organisers for their effort. The day’s proceedings ended with the team being treated to dinner and drinks by the Club

 

Peterite Family Funday

Coinciding with the Peteritereunion, the Family Fun day on October 5th was loads of fun for all consisting of 6 a side cricket, touch rugby, sack race, tug-o-war, jumping castle and face painting followed by an all you can eat hopper meal. The Club house bar was well patronized by the 160 or so guests. The winners of the various events were presented with gifts as the teams cheered them on whilst those who came from overseas and interstate as well as Melbournians were treated to a fun filled day of Peterite unity

 

Christmas Lunch

The Peterite Family Christmas Lunch was held on December 7th to herald the Christmas spirit and cheer and was attended by Peterites of all ages in the company of family and friends. A buffet lunch, cuppa and cake, nativity play performed to the singing of carols, raffle draw and dancing were all on the cards as everyone enjoyed the fellowship and atmosphere. The event was a sell-out with 180 attending and everyone went home having being uplifted in particular by the nativity play done by the kids and grandkids of Peterites

 

Donation towards excellence in education – $9,000

Lending a hand to our alma mater is core among our objectives and accordingly we are delighted to announce the funding of $9,000 over three years to be utilized in the ‘Teacher Incentive Programme’, launched recently by Fr Rector, which is expected to yield excellence in education in the years to come. The first instalment was donated on December 30th by Johann Gunasekara (President SPC Mel) in the presence of Fr Trevor Martin Rector, Patrick Fernando (Past President SPC Mel) and received by Romeish de Mel (President SPC OBU Colombo).
